The Cobra Experience is excited to help support Mr. Brian Wheeler, Martinez's Alhambra High School Auto Shop Teacher and his team of 7 former students, Alex, Riley, Jacob, Landon, Evan, Jake and Ethan, to compete in "The Great Race". The student portion of The Great Race is called the X-Cup and is made possible by RPM Foundation.
The Great Race is a 2000 plus mile rally race on the backroads of America (No Freeways!). Speeds for the race will be 5 mph below posted speed limits. This a race of precision, not of speed. It starts this year in St Augustine, Florida and travels through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and ending in Colorado Springs, the home of the US Air Force Academy. Notable stops include Graceland in Memphis and The Clinton Library in Arkansas. The team will be traveling with a fleet of 158 competitors in classics and antiques manufactured from 1916 to 1974. This is sure to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. We are especially pleased that we are able to support the young people in this event as it aligns with the mission of the museum and hopeful that they will create friendships with people from all over the country.
In our inaugural year (hopefully many more ahead of us), we are looking for some support from our community to help make this as successful as possible. We are lucky enough to have purchased an incredibly original 1969 Mustang Mach 1 that was stored for many many years and needs some TLC to get it ready to drive across the country! Mr. Wheeler and the students will be working alongside skilled technicians to prepare the car for their race from Florida to Colorado June 24th through July 2nd, 2023! P.S. They are super excited it has air conditioning!
Please consider a donation to support Alex, Riley, Jacob, Landon, Evan, Jake, Ethan, and Mr. Wheeler make this dream come true! We have created a budget that not only includes things like: hotel rooms while on the race, gas, transportation of the car to Florida, replacement parts for the car etc. and our goal is to raise $17,500.00.
Your donations are fully tax deductible due to the 501(c)(3) status of the museum.
We are grateful for your support and are super excited for this journey! Please come out and meet the team at Snakes at The Farm (5/6), Cobra Day (6/3), and The Drive for Hunger and Sweepstakes Car Giveaway (6/10).
