Summer is Here

Newsletter — Vol. 103

Happy July!

It has been a quiet one around the museum the last few weeks - which I am okay with! I feel like we have been on a roller coaster these last couple of months!

The kids participated at The Great Race, and learned A LOT about a car rally. They finished 100 out of 123! They had some car challenges, some weather, some major humidity and learned how to be a team together! Stay tuned for more on that!

Movie Night tonight is sold out. We are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of American Graffiti.

We are looking forward to our "What's that 3rd Pedal for" class this Saturday, and then we are open on Sunday! Make sure to stop by and see us!

Cars, Kids & Coffee this Sunday from 8:30-10:00, come on out and have a cup of Joe and some sugar, oh, and of course, cars!

Sunday, July 16th - we are open - which is THIS Sunday! Come by and see us! We would love to see you!

Future Museum Open Days:

Reservations can be made in advance, (NOT required). If you wish to do so, please click on the link below or visit the website here.

On a lighter note, here is a funny for you!

Why was six afraid of seven?
Because seven eight nine

Cheers to wind in the face in 2023!

Save the Date!

The 4th Annual Shelby Spin is October 7th & 8th, 2023

If you are not familiar with the event, it is a 2 day drive with an overnight stay, and A LOT of fun! Only requirement is to drive a FORD vehicle!

Registration will open mid-August. Space is LIMITED!

We don't normally post anything that falls in the political realm, but we think this one needs to be shared. This is from the National Motorist Association!

Sign the petition to stop speed cameras in California. Assembly Bill 645 by Assembly member Laura Friedman (Glendale/Los Angeles) would allow the use of speed ticketing cameras in LA and five other cities. If this bill becomes law, eventually the entire state will be overrun with ticketing cameras issuing hundreds of millions of dollars in tickets to unsuspecting motorists. This is the fifth or sixth iteration of this bill which we have previously scrapped. Unfortunately, this year it has a much better chance of passing. It already passed the Assembly and is currently being heard in the Senate. Just a few more votes will be taken before it goes to the Governor. We need your voice to tell California legislators – NO speed cameras in California!

They finished!

Thanks to our AWESOME donors and sponsors! Les Schwab Tires Martinez, Monument Car Parts, and Team Shelby Great Lakes Region!

The Cobra Experience is excited to help support Mr. Brian Wheeler, (Martinez's Alhambra High School Auto Shop Teacher) and his team of 7 former students, Alex, Riley, Jacob, Landon, Evan, Jake and Ethan to compete in "The Great Race" in a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang. The student portion of The Great Race is called the X-Cup and is made possible by RPM Foundation.

The team finished 100 out of 123 cars! They FINISHED! That is a huge accomplishment! We will be doing some fun stories and maybe even an event to hear about their experiences! So stay tuned to hear more!

We are continuing to fundraising for their adventure - transport, car parts, travel, food, etc. If you can help, we would be appreciative!

What is that 3rd Pedal for?

July 15th
September 16th

We are looking for cars and instructors!

Are you willing to help a youth or fellow car enthusiast learn how to drive a manual? Yes your car needs to be a manual as well. Does not have to be a classic car, just a manual transmission. If you can help us, please click here.

A Wish for Ken

by Emily Lambert

I had a friend reach out to me on Facebook about a post he saw of a son looking for someone to help his dad with a bucket list wish. This wish happened to be going for a ride in an original cobra. Well guess what, I can do that all day long! So I made a few calls and was able to make it happen!

Mr. Ken Stickel was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and given a month to live. The plan was for friend of the museum, Jack Wright with CSX2303, to swing by Ken's home on Sunday, as it was his wife's birthday and the family would all be together. As it turned out, Jack had to come later in the day as he had already committed to attending a car show that same day in support of Pancreatic Cancer! It is a very small world.

Unfortunately, Ken was unable to get into the car at this point in his illness, but he had fun with his family checking out Jack's cobra (pic above), and the Stickel family was very grateful.

The Stickel family lost Ken just 4 days later.

Thank you so much to our friend Jack Wright, and our thoughts are with the Stickel family.

We here at the museum are always happy, and feel lucky to be able to make wishes and dreams come true, and love to hear stories about you doing the same!
